Veneer placement is a minimally invasive procedure that is pain-free and affordable. Thin pieces of porcelain are secured to the tooth's visible face, improving the patient's smile and the overall appearance of their teeth. Veneers can be tinted, sized, and shaped to match the natural teeth in the oral cavity.
Veneer treatments can be applied to a single tooth or multiple teeth and are typically held securely in place by an adhesive agent.
Patients will need two separate appointments to properly secure veneers to their teeth. Here’s what to expect:
The oral cavity is prepared for the placement appointment during the first appointment. Tooth preparation for veneer placement begins with the doctor removing the uppermost layer of enamel from the tooth to make room for the veneer placement. Removing this very thin layer is necessary to make room for the veneer. A local anesthetic will be relied upon to keep the patient comfortable and relaxed throughout the procedure.
After the tooth is prepared, molds are made so we can demonstrate to the patient how they will look once placed. We will tint the veneers to match the patient's teeth.
Once the veneers have been secured to the teeth, very little can be done to adjust their appearance. For this reason, patients must consider the molds and agree with how the veneers should be placed.
The recovery period following veneer placement is generally brief and straightforward. Most patients experience little to no discomfort after the procedure and can resume their normal activities almost immediately.
It's important to avoid chewing hard foods directly with the veneers for the first 24 hours to allow the adhesive to fully set. Some sensitivity to hot and cold temperatures may occur initially but typically subsides within a few days.
Following your dentist's care instructions will ensure a smooth recovery and help maintain the longevity of your new veneers.
